Like every state, Mississippi’s work to ensure students move seamlessly from education to work touches on three complex systems: K-12 education, postsecondary education and training, and workforce development.
So when Mississippi decided to prioritize career coaching to help young people navigate education pathways, it created a program that sits at the intersection of all three.
AccelerateMS, Mississippi’s statewide workforce development agency, launched the statewide career coaching program in 2022. And while the program operates in 204 public high schools throughout the state — about 90 percent of them — it is funded through grants to regional intermediary organizations best positioned to know the people, the employers, and the needs.
“We’ve established a program that is locally led, locally managed, but working together with the state as a whole,” said Courtney Taylor, executive director of AccelerateMS.
