Expanding opportunities for paid work-based learning is a popular idea.
Also popular: using employer intermediaries — organizations that act as a bridge between employers and education and workforce systems — to help employers launch, scale, and implement work-based learning programs.
Nearly two dozen organizations committed to expanding work-based learning have signed on to endorse the new Framework for Effective Employer Intermediaries, a resource that identifies and defines the five key functions of employer intermediaries that support work-based learning. The endorsing organizations represent national, statewide, and local intermediary organizations, researchers, and policy experts.
In partnership with Strada, the Framework was created by a group of experts who came together to define and guide the practice of employer intermediaries in order to grow work-based learning opportunities.
